Cabinetry and labor lead the budget
In most kitchen renovations, cabinetry and installation together are the single largest line — often a third or more of the total. Custom and semi-custom cabinetry costs more but buys a layout tailored to your space and how you cook, which is usually money well spent in a room you use every day.
Labor — demolition, plumbing, electrical, and install — is the other big share, and the part most people underestimate.
Where to spend
Spend on the things that are hard or expensive to change later: the layout, quality cabinetry and hardware, and durable countertops. These are the bones of the kitchen — get them right and the room works for decades.
Where you can save
Save on the things that are easy to swap: light fixtures, backsplash tile, and decor. A modest tile paired with beautiful cabinetry reads as high-end; the reverse rarely does.
